The Centre for Multidisciplinary and General Studies (CMGS) is the academic unit that has the mandate to host and coordinate:

  • All university-wide Courses within the University
  • Pre-university Entry Preparatory Courses: West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) remedials: English, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and other electives as need be.
  • Access Course/Mature students’ course for Nursing Assistant Clinicals (NAC) or Enrolled Nurses and Nursing Assistant Preventive (NAP) or Community Health Nurses.
  • Preparation for International Professional Examinations
  • Preparation for English Language Test for Foreign students (TOEFL)
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

VARIOUS UNITS AND COURSES OFFERED AT THE CENTRE FOR MULTIDISCIPLINARY AND GENERAL STUDIES (CMGS)

  • 1. University-Wide Courses Unit
  • This unit coordinates all university-wide courses that every student admitted to Greenfield Undergraduate programmes are mandated to take. Examples of University-wide courses offered include but not limited to the following:

    • Medical Genetics
    • Communication Skills
    • African and General Studies
    • Computer Appreciation
    • Gender Studies
    • Health Care System in Ghana and its Management

  • 2. Pre-University Programmes Unit
  • This unit coordinate and run all preparatory courses for those desiring to gain admission into Degree programmes at Greenfield University College. The programme will run between 6 months to 1 year, depending on the number of courses and the ability of the student to learn quickly.
    It is an intensive programme designed for Senior High School candidates who have missed qualification requirements for regular admission into any undergraduate programme. In view of this the programme is specially designed to prepare weak students for University Education. Additionally, it also helps students develop the skills, knowledge, understanding and attitudes required for university education. The courses offered in the Pre-University unit include the following among others:

    • English Language
    • Core Mathematics
    • Integrated Science
    • Social Studies
    • Elective Mathematics
    • Chemistry
    • Physics
    • Biology
    • Economics
    • Christian Religious Studies (CRS)
    • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

3. Access Course/Mature Students Unit

This unit organizes two types of programmes, namely:

(a) Special Access Course for Entry into undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery programmes

Courses offered under this programme are designed to prepare Nursing Assistant Clinicals (NAC) or Enrolled Nurses and Nursing Assistant Preventive (NAP) or Community Health Nurses who desire to enter the university but do not have the WASSCE requirements.

Qualification for Entering the Access Course:
To enter the Access programme candidates must:

  • Hold a Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) Certificate in Nursing Assistant Clinicals (NAC) or Nursing Assistant Preventive (NAP)
  • Have a three-year working experience.
  • Take part in the access course and passing the examination at the end of the course. NOTE: Successful candidates will subsequently be admitted into the undergraduate programme in either BSc Nursing, BSc Midwifery and BSc Public Health Nursing at Level 200.

(b) Mature Students Entry Qualification

For mature candidates, the applicant must be at least 25 years old and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth, which is at least five years older at the time of application. The applicant musty pass mature students entrance examination conducted by the university in English Language, Mathematics, Aptitude Test and General Paper.

4. Unit for International Examination Preparation

This unit coordinates and prepares students all international professional examinations and International English Proficiency preparatory courses including preparation for the following:

  • National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX): for nurses seeking to work in the USA and Canada and Australia
  • Computer Based Test (CBT): for Nurses who want to work in the United Kingdom (UK)

In addition to the above it also prepares students for all English Language Tests for Foreign students: For example:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
  • Occupational English Test (OET)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
  • Pearson Test for English (PTE)
